Whilst on board the Beagle I was quite orthodox, and I remember being heartily laughed at by several of the officers (although themselves orthodox) for quoting the Bible as an unanswerable authority on some point of morality.
Charles Darwin

In bringing The Creation Answer Book to a close, I want to impress a face on the canvas of your consciousness. Not just any face, but the FACE that demonstrates the farce of evolution. It has a sharply receding forehead cascading abruptly into a heavy brow ridge. Its mouth juts open, revealing ape-like teeth. Its eyes are deepset and pensive. They are the eyes of a philosopher. The picture is worth a thousand words, its message crystal clear. This monkey is man in the making. Your earliest ancestor was not Adam but an ape. Genesis is merely the beginning of an infamous fairy tale.

Why impress this picture on your mind? Because for evolutionists this face is often the argument. The tables, however, are easily turned. F-A-C-E can serve as a memorable snapshot demonstrating that macroevolution* is no longer tenable in an age of scientific enlightenment.

The F reminds us of Fossil Follies. As demonstrated in the entry “Did Hippos Evolve into Whales?” (page 160), the evolutionary hypothesis has evolved into a whale of a tale, but fossil evidence is scant. Thus, belief in the evolutionary development of physiological wonders such as blowholes, sonar, and diving mechanisms is founded in faith rather than on fossils. Darwin’s candor is to be commended: “Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely-graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps, is the most obvious and serious objection which can be urged against the theory. The explanation lies, as I believe, in the extreme imperfection of the geological record.” One hundred and thirty years after Darwin’s death, the fossil record continues to be an embarrassment to the evolutionary hypothesis.

The A represents Ape-Men—Fiction, Fraud, and Fantasy. Perhaps best-known is Pithecanthropus erectus—the face that stared back at me from the pages of my high school textbook (see “Are Ape-Men Fictions, Frauds, and Fantasies?” on page 167). Darwin protégé Sir Arthur Keith pointed to Pithecanthropus as an example of evolving gullibility in his profession. And mental digestion has not improved much over the years. In 2009, Darwinius masillae, affectionately nicknamed “Ida,” was dubbed the “eighth wonder of the world”—the link between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom—and the most important fossil discovery in 47 million years. Currently, however, evolutionary scientists have been forced to confess that Ida plays no role whatsoever in human evolution.

The C stands for Chance. Chance in this sense refers to that which happens without cause. Thus, chance implies the absence of both design and a designer. As documented in the entry “Is Earth a Privileged Planet?” (see page 13), earth is a planetary masterpiece of precision and design*. It is situated between two spiral arms of a flattened spiral galaxy—the Milky Way—not too close to the core to be exposed to lethal radiation, comet collisions, or light pollution that would obscure observation of the distant universe; and not so far that a privileged planet could never form or where we would not observe different kinds of nearby stars. Earth’s status in the universe is surely one of privilege. To reduce it to an accident of cosmic chance is shortsighted; to recognize it as privileged, sublime.

The E represents Empirical* Science. Go to the drama section of iTunes movies and you’ll find a propaganda piece titled Inherit the Wind. It features a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes trial, in which creationists are portrayed as bigoted ignoramuses and evolutionists as benevolent intellectuals. In the end, one is left with the notion that believing in the creation model for origins is tantamount to committing intellectual suicide. In reality, the inverse is true. As documented in the entry “Who Made God?” (see page 2), simple logic dictates that the universe is not merely an illusion; it didn’t spring out of nothing (nothing comes from nothing; nothing ever could); and it has not eternally existed (the empirical law of entropy* predicts a universe that eternally existed would have died an “eternity ago” of heat loss). The only empirically plausible possibility is the universe was made by an unmade Cause greater than itself.

In truth, it is not enough to demonstrate that evolution is a farce. You must also be ready to use well-reasoned answers as opportunities for sharing the good news that the God who created us also desires reconciliation and fellowship with us. While you cannot change anyone’s heart—only the Creator can do that—you can prepare yourself to effectively communicate the difference between mere religion and a meaningful relationship with the Creator of the universe. The apostle Paul underscored this very point in his famed sermon on Mars Hill:

From one man he made every nation of men,
that they should inhabit the whole earth; and
he determined the times set for them and the
exact places where they should live. God did
this so that men would seek him and perhaps
reach out for him and find him, though he is
not far from each one of us.

(Acts 17:26–27)

Some sneered at the message. Others were saved.
