THE OCCULTIST- Introduction
Just exactly how does a person go about witnessing to someone involved in occultic and pagan practices?

THE OCCULTIST- Be in Constant Prayer
When reaching out to those in the occult, remember to be in constant prayer. The apostle Paul, in Ephesians 6, exhorts us to put on the whole armor of God for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness. Therefore, pray for God’s guidance and protection because you are dealing with the realm of Satan. It is important to remember that Satan, the god of this age, has blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 Cor. 4:4).

THE OCCULTIST- The Holy Spirit
Additionally, continue to place your trust upon the Holy Spirit to empower your witness and give you the wisdom to answer whatever objections may arise (Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:4-5). And remember “greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world (I John 4:4).”

THE OCCULTIST- Review Scripture
Also, it is important to prepare for the encounter by reviewing passages of Scripture which are relevant to the occult. Be ready to share such passages as Deuteronomy 18:9-14 and Galatians 5:20, — in fact, you might want to memorize them. These passages show God’s condemnation of all occultic practices (cf. Acts 13:6-12; 19:19). Point out that the Bible also warns us of a time when “some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons” (1 Tim. 4:1; cf. Mark 13:22). And while you should be compassionate and gracious when pointing out these facts, remain firm in your stance and do not allow the occultist to distort the Word of God or to minimize the differences between Christianity and the occult.

THE OCCULTIST- For Personal Power and Satisfaction
It’s important to realize that people involved in the occult are usually seeking after personal power and satisfaction. Such individuals frequently appeal to experience as the ultimate guide to truth. As Christians, however, we need to explain that experience is hardly an infallible criterion for truth (Prov. 14:12). More importantly, we need to emphasize that true fulfillment in life is found not in a quest for personal power but, rather, through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (John 10:10). If you want to talk about real power, Jesus Christ is the one who is anointed with real power (Acts 10:38; cf. Matt. 28:18). He is the one who can change your life and give it meaning, purpose, direction and fulfillment. On witnessing to occultists, that’s the CRI Perspective. I’m Hank Hanegraaff.
