Hank’s Prologue:

  • Hank comments on the Oxford Dictionaries word of the year for 2016, “post-truth.” According to Oxford Dictionaries the word post-truth is an adjective that relates to circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief. All of this begs the question: what is truth? Or, why is truth important? When standing before Jesus, Pontius Pilate asked this same question. Pilate stood toe to toe with the very personification of truth and yet missed its reality. Much like Pilate, postmodern people today miss the truth as well. Unfortunately, the death of truth spells the death of civilization. We must remember, however, that truth is true even if everyone denies it, and a lie is a lie even if everyone affirms it.
