On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (10/30/18), Hank discusses the Asia Bibi blasphemy case in Pakistan. In 2009 Asia Bibi, a Christian mother, was harvesting berries with a group of other farmhands in a field. She was asked to fetch water from a nearby well, and while doing so took a drink of water with a nearby cup. A neighbor of Asia’s spotted her and got in an argument because as a Christian, Asia was seen as “unclean.” Others chimed in and insulted her religion and told her to convert to Islam. Asia responded by saying: “I believe in my religion and in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the sins of mankind. What did your Prophet Muhammad ever do to save mankind?” Asia was reported to a local cleric, accused of insulting Muhammad. A mob came to her house and beat her and her family before being rescued by police. The police started an investigation into her remarks and arrested her in accordance with the Pakistan Penal Code which prohibits blasphemy. She was convicted and sentenced to death in 2010, and after years of appeals and requests, the Supreme Court of Pakistan will announce their judgment on the case tomorrow.
