On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/08/20), Hank discusses an article he read recently in USA Today titled, “Pandemic Spurs Big Questions Around Faith” by Lindsay Schnell. The article features Christian theologian Thomas Jay Oord, who is attempting to answer the question, “if God is good, why does the coronavirus exist?” According to Oord, there are a lot of bad answers to that question. The real answer—according to Oord—is that God cannot prevent the coronavirus without our participation and cooperation. This, says Oord, is the only tenable option in that it coheres with the overarching maxim that God is love. But is Oord right? Or is he badly mistaken? In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank notes the observance of Spy Wednesday in the Western Church, a day in which we remember the ultimate betrayal—Judas’ betrayal of Jesus for a mere thirty pieces of silver.
Hank also answers the following question:
- What does God mean when He says that He is a jealous God? My friend thinks that means that God is all-too-human and therefore not worthy of worship. How should I respond?
