In the article, Jones explains what symbolic immortality projects are—humankind’s attempts to avoid the finality of death through various activities such as having children, writing a book, or creating a work of art—and why they all ultimately fail. “After all,” says Jones, “symbolic immortality is only symbolic—when you die, you’re still dead.”
