On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/16/20), Hank addresses the recent news that the most significant Byzantine structure, Hagia Sophia—originally the symbol of Christian worship—is reverting to a Mosque. Built between 532 and 537 under the direction of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, the Christian basilica was turned into a mosque after the capture of Constantinople in 1453. Constantinople was renamed Istanbul and Islam continued its insidious journey toward turning all of Europe into an Islamic stronghold. In 1935, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the modern Republic of Turkey, converted Hagia Sophia into a museum. Now, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is turning it back into a mosque. Hank explains that the occurrence represents a microcosm of what is happening to Western Civilization. As Christianity is becoming increasingly secular, the opposite is taking place within Islam. The only real solution to a disintegrating West and resurgent Islam, Hank argues, is the power of the Eucharist that once resided in the hallowed spaces of Hagia Sophia. It is not enough for Christians to be intellectually equipped to communicate the truth of the gospel. During this anti-Judeo-Christian moment, we must also be internally energized by a power that is in us but not of us.
