Never Give Up: The Story of a Broken Man Impacting a Generation

by Dr. K. P. Yohannan

“God brings certain books and people into our lives precisely when we need them. Never Give Up is one of those books, and K. P. Yohannan is one of those people. His passion to ‘change a  generation’ is as inspirational as it is instructive.”

— Hank Hanegraaff, President of the Christian Research Institute

From Chapter One: Cast into Chaos

Chaotic behavior exists in numerous natural systems. An example would be weather patterns. For the most part they are predictable — but never with perfect precision. That’s because even small changes in data can have a profound effect on an eventual outcome.

Unexpected, chaotic incidents affect people every day. Your healthy young husband or father is diagnosed as having an aggressive lymphoma, and he is gone just a few months later.

You have an ideal job. Then one day you are unexpectedly called into your boss’s office and informed that it is over, just like that.

You win all kinds of awards for your aggressive style of play … then an injury changes everything, including the trajectory of your life.

You discover your best friend has betrayed you. You are devastated.

Coming home on the expressway, a tire blows on your car, and you are the cause of a multi-auto accident. You cause irreversible harm to others and yourself, in mind and body.

Someone you trusted too much robs you of your life savings and vanishes.

Or you begin to realize that a group of people, for whatever their reasons, is determined to strip you of your reputation and ministry, and, apparently, they will stop at nothing as they pursue their goal.

It takes a while to wrap your head around it and to realize that everything about how you live your life must change before you can even start to respond to such situations.

From Chapter Two: Deep in the Forest Fire
The great reality of the Christian message is not that people fail, not that they are fl awed, but that there is redemption, reconciliation and reclamation available in the Cross of Jesus Christ. Instead of criticism, we should be praying for resurrection of the human spirit that has been broken by sin (even when the brokenness is caused by those who disappoint and disillusion us). Regeneration is one of the ongoing triumphant messages of Christianity.

I have walked through this minefield — the abuse was aimed at me. I was the target. But sadly, I don’t
believe this is a story exclusive to me and the ministry of Gospel for Asia. I am convinced that in the days ahead, many other ministries will face this same onslaught. The journey I’ve been writing about is not just about us. We are only a guinea pig, a test case, so the enemy sees how far he can go. But it will not always be someone else who is the object of the attack. Persecution, malicious gossip, and the collusion of evil to destroy can even happen to you. When you walk through the forest fire of grief and pain, though, you will see the invisible One and He will see you through.

Revolution in World Missions

by Dr. K. P. Yohannan

“Lord, I’ll give myself to speak for You.”

Young Yohannan had no idea what those words of surrender would mean for his life and for millions of others in his generation. Once an insecure 16-year-old, he became a missionary statesman who has impacted the world of missions and whose unbending message has touched hungry hearts on every continent.

Step into his story and experience the world through his eyes. You’ll walk right into the book of Acts. And through his telling, you’ll hear the very heart of God beating for His creation. K.P. Yohannan’s passion is contagious and spurs you on to be all for Jesus.

He chose to take the road less traveled many years ago, and today Gospel for Asia, the mission he founded, is one of the most respected organizations in our time with thousands of national workers and vibrant congregations throughout the heart of the 10/40 Window.

Walking Through Twilight: A Wife’s Illness — A Philosopher’s Lament

by Douglas Groothuis

Philosopher Douglas Groothuis offers a window into his experience of caring for his wife as a rare form of dementia ravages her once-brilliant mind and eliminates her once-stellar verbal acuity. Combining personal narrative with spiritual insight, he captures moments of lament as well as philosophical and theological reflection. Brief interludes provide poignant pictures of life inside the Groothuis household, and we meet a parade of caregivers, including a very skilled companion dog. Losses for both Doug and Becky come daily, and his questions for God multiply as he navigates the descending darkness. Here is a frank exploration of how one continues to find God in the twilight.

Why Does God Allow Evil?

by Clay Jones

Grasping this truth will change your view of God forever…If God is good and all-powerful, why doesn’t He put a stop to the evil in this world? Christians and non-Christians alike struggle with the concept of a loving God who allows widespread suffering in this life and never-ending punishment in hell. We wrestle with questions such as…Why do bad things happen to good people? Why should we have to suffer for Adam’s sin? How can eternal judgment be fair? But what if the real problem doesn’t start with God…but with us?

The Theology of Illness

by Jean-Claude Larchet

Jean-Claude Larchet’s The Theology of Illness explores biblical and patristic perspectives on sickness and redemptive suffering. The questions Larchet considers are fundamental: the origins of sin in a fallen world, its impact on physical health, and the healing of human nature by the incarnate Son of God. He explains healing as a means of glorifying God, stressing again the crucial role of prayer and sacramental grace in promoting genuine health. When illness plunges us into unfamiliar territory, even to the point of death, Larchet teaches us to marshal spiritual reserves in a society dominated by technology and materialism. In a time when the physician has been dubbed the high priest of the god of Modern Medicine, Larchet encourages us to situate these crucial experiences within the framework of their relationship to the unique reality of the Holy Trinity.

“Without hyperbole, this book, The Theology of Illness, played a transformational role in helping me internalize the truth that the health of our soul is far more important than the health of our body. God is not interested in healing us physically; He is interested in healing the whole of us — body, soul, and spirit.” —Hank Hanegraaff
