Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘢𝘯 broadcast, explains that in giving, followers of Christ need to be not only ministry-centric but nous-centric. The nous is “the seat of our spiritual perception”—“the eye of the soul.” As we ask people to give, we need to be aware of the reality that giving is not as much about the needs of ministry—though important and significant—as about the nous of the giver. When we give, something from a spiritual standpoint accrues to, or abounds to the account of, the giver. As Dr. Andrew Geleris notes, “When we bless God with our money, God blesses us with things money cannot buy. Joy. Peace. Depth of Prayer.” As we close the year 2021 and embark upon 2022, be aware of the needs of the world but also consider carefully what accrues to your account when you give as you have been given.
