Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, continues in his teaching series on the Gospel of Matthew. Unlike the Magi, Herod had no interest in worshiping the Messiah. Instead, he wanted Messiah dead. Herod’s sights were not on the things of heaven, but upon earthly vanities, just as many of us stumble in the same way. He had more advantages than the Magi with respect to knowing the truth, but the Jewish king turned out to be selfish tyrant. Herod’s life of worshiping earthly vanities ended in misery.
Joseph, Mary and Jesus fled to Egypt and this was a typological fulfillment of the prophecy from Hosea, “Out of Egypt I called my son” (Hos. 11:1; cf. Matt. 2:5).
