Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘢𝘯 broadcast, comments on a recent story in The Economist about a woman named Carol, who is detransitioning from a man to a woman. Carol once thought she would be better off as a man, so, tragically, she underwent testosterone treatments and a double mastectomy. However, according to The Economist, she “soon felt wretched as a trans man,” experiencing unbearable side effects. Eventually, “she realized her gender dysphoria, the painful feeling she was in the wrong body, did not, in fact, make her a man.” Carol became another in an increasing number of people who detransition—another statistic of a social contagion. It is woke but it is hardly wise to decouple gender and biological sex. Think about having a double mastectomy for the sake of sex transition and then realizing the need to detransition. The fallout of a culture in decline is felt in the daily lives of people like Carol. As followers of Christ, it is our job not merely to curse the darkness but to light a candle in the midst of this growing woke storm.
